Christmas in Parma

Piazza Ghiaia (confirmed for 2026). Six market days: Sunday November 29, Sunday December 6, Monday December 7, Tuesday December 8 (the Immaculate Conception holiday), Sunday December 13 and Sunday December 20. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect artisans, farm producers, themed gift stalls and food trucks with hot dishes. It is a market, not a Christmas village: an hour is enough.

What ran in 2025 (not yet confirmed for 2026):

• Christmas in Pilotta: a market in the riding hall of the Palazzo della Pilotta from December 8 to 24, 2025.
• Mercatino di Santa Lucia: the Santa Lucia market, held on December 14 in 2025, with a Santa Lucia concert and children's workshops the same weekend.
• Oltremarket: dates in November and December under the arcades of the Ospedale Vecchio in the Oltretorrente.
• A carousel on the square of Santa Maria della Steccata, daily through the season.

• Parma on Ice: the skating rink on Piazzale della Pace, beside the Verdi monument and the Pilotta, ran from November 28, 2025 to January 18, 2026. The Comune has not announced 2026 dates or prices.
• Concerts: the 2025 programme filled the Casa della Musica's concert hall with evening concerts, many free, plus choirs and organ music in churches.
• New Year's Eve: a free party in Piazza Garibaldi from 10:30 p.m. with a DJ, then a headline concert at midnight (Alex Britti in 2025).
• January 1: a New Year's concert at the Teatro Regio at 6 p.m., ticketed. Check the Regio's season for 2027.

From December 1 to January 13 in 2025 the Laboratorio Aperto at the San Paolo complex also ran more than 30 free food-culture events, bookable in advance. That fits Parma's UNESCO food title better than any market; see why Parma is a City of Gastronomy.

If one dish defines a Parma Christmas, it is anolini in brodo: small round pasta filled with braised beef and Parmigiano Reggiano, served in meat broth. It is the Christmas pasta of Parma, and a Sunday one through the winter. Around it, the cured-meat board gets serious: culatello, prosciutto and spalla cotta.

For where to order it, start with our restaurant shortlist. Book Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals as early as you can, and ask whether the kitchen serves a fixed holiday menu that day; we have not seen 2026 holiday menus or prices from any Parma restaurant yet.

Plan around closures, because they stack up. What we could confirm:

• The IAT tourist office at Strada Garibaldi 18 opens daily 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. but is closed on December 25 and January 1.
• The Pilotta museums open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and close on Mondays. December 28, 2026 and January 4, 2027 are Mondays. The Pilotta publishes its 2026 holiday closures in a separate calendar; check it for December 25 and January 1 before you plan the day.
• Restaurants: there is no citywide rule and each sets its own holiday hours. Ring ahead rather than walking in on December 25 or 26.

December 25, 2026 is a Friday and December 26 (Santo Stefano, also a public holiday in Italy) is a Saturday, so expect a long, quiet weekend. Churches stay open for services: the Duomo and other churches had nativity scenes through December and January in 2025.
