Hotel Torino

Borgo Mazza is inside the isola ambientale, closed to unauthorized cars 24 hours a day under the city's 2024 traffic ordinance. The hotel explains why it is strict about times: it cannot manage car access to the historic centre any other way. On arrival you register your plate with the hotel and unload. Then you have three options:

• The hotel garage. Small, paid, and it must be booked. The hotel does not publish the price; ask when you reserve. It has an 11 kW electric-car charger.
• Valet to Garage Bòttego. Garage staff collect the car at the hotel door and return it when you leave, for €25 a night, from 3 p.m. on arrival to 1 p.m. on departure. Best if you will not use the car in Parma.
• Parcheggio Toschi, 400 m away by the hotel's count, at €16 after the first 10 hours. It accepts Telepass.

The hotel lists singles, standard and comfort doubles, a superior double and triples. Small pets up to 5 kg are allowed on request, not in the common rooms. Laundry is available for a fee, and a €40 deposit is taken at check-in.

Breakfast costs €15 per person on room-only rates. On both dates checked, the breakfast-included rate was only €10 more per room than room only (€156 against €146 on October 14), so for two people the package is the better buy.

This is the hotel to book for an opera night at the Regio, especially during Festival Verdi. You walk out of the theatre and into bed. The Duomo, which is free and open from 7:45 a.m., is 3 minutes away, and the Pilotta is a few minutes past the theatre.

Opera-goers, first-time visitors on foot, and anyone who wants the Duomo and Piazza Garibaldi within 4 minutes. For cheaper nights in the same area, Hotel Button was €28 less on October 14. For a car-based trip, Starhotels Du Parc has a €15 garage and no arrival-time rule.

One practical point for opera nights: the city's ordinance lets taxis into the pedestrian lanes to drop off and collect passengers, but from the Torino you will not need one. The Wednesday and Saturday market also means those mornings are busier outside the door than the rest of the week.
