Around Parma Station

Stay here if trains are the plan. From the station you reach Modena, Bologna and Cremona, and Salsomaggiore Terme via Fidenza. With a 2-minute walk to the platforms, an 8 a.m. train stops being a taxi problem. Our getting to Parma page has the times and fares.

It also suits a one-night stop with an early train the next morning, and business travellers. It suits less well a romantic weekend or a first visit that is only about Parma: you will walk 15 minutes each way to dinner.

All non-refundable. City tax is €4 per adult per night at four-stars. The Sina Maria Luigia is the value pick: breakfast included, 8 minutes from both the platforms and Piazza Duomo. NH Parma wins only on the 2-minute walk. NH's indoor garage is €18 a day and cannot be reserved; the Stendhal's is €20 and must be.

We looked for official crime figures for the streets around Parma station and found none we could cite, so we publish none. What we can say plainly: this is a railway station with bus stops and a taxi rank, and it has the mix of commuters, travellers and people waiting around that every Italian station has. Keep your phone and wallet close on the platforms and in the underpass, as you would in Bologna or Milan.

At night, the direct walk between the station and the centre follows Strada Garibaldi, the route central hotels give in their directions. If you arrive late with luggage, a taxi from the rank is the simple answer.

The station has its own small restricted zone. Under the city's 2024 ordinance, Via Cecchi and Piazzale Dalla Chiesa (except its south side) are a ZTL 24 hours a day. The bus lane in the Viale Falcone underpass and on Via Montebello is camera-enforced 24 hours, holidays included. A satnav sending you "to the station" can take you through both.

For dropping someone off, Infomobility runs quick-stop bays in the station area: €0.50 for 20 minutes or €1 for 40 minutes, 40 minutes maximum, around the clock. Ordinary on-street parking in the station sensitive area is €1.50 an hour, 1 hour maximum, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. For longer, Infomobility lists a covered pay car park, Parcheggio Stazione, off Viale Europa on Via Villa Sant'Angelo; it does not publish the price there. NH Parma's garage is €18 a day.

A TEP urban bus ticket is €2, valid 80 minutes, or €6.30 for a day, and you can pay by contactless card on board. For most visitors, walking is quicker than waiting. The historic centre loop starts 10 minutes away at the Pilotta.

TEP city buses stop on the station forecourt. Two lines matter to visitors. Bus 6 runs north-west toward Baganzola and the airport, and is the line Best Western Plus Hotel Farnese sends its guests to. Buses 12 and 20 are the lines Hotel Daniel recommends for the west side of town.

Tickets cost €2 for 80 minutes. Since TEP moved to QR-code tickets, the paper ticket no longer shows a stamp time, so validate on boarding and keep it until you get off.
