Black truffle hunting at Fragno

Berceto is about 65 km (40 miles) and 56 minutes' drive from Piazza Garibaldi. It is not Fragno, and the listing names only "summer or autumn" black truffles rather than the Fragno uncinato, but it is a real hunt with dogs. ParmaLook also sells a private hunt from Parma on Viator, priced only in US currency, with pickup at NH Parma; we do not convert it.

Emilia-Romagna Tourism lists the Fair of the Black Truffle of Fragno every Sunday from October 18 to November 8, 2026: tastings, truffle menus in participating restaurants, roast chestnuts, local specialties such as spongata di Calestano, stalls and music. The detailed program had not been published on September 29, 2026. The Truffle Museum's calendar also lists special openings "for the fair" on Saturday October 10, Sunday October 11 and Saturday October 17, so check both before you go.

The Museo del Tartufo di Fragno is at Via Maschi 2, Calestano. It opens Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from May 24 to December 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.; closed from December 9. Tickets €5, €4 reduced, €10 family, or the €15 Food Museums card. Park in Piazza Europa before the bridge over the Baganza and walk 100 m up Via Mazzini.

By bus, the museum's own directions are city line 6 from Parma station to Felino, then a regional bus to Calestano, Piazza Europa. See the Food Museums for the rest of the network.

The museum points out that truffle hunting in Italy is regulated by national law 162 of May 17, 1991 and Emilia-Romagna regional law 24 of September 2, 1991, which set the tools hunters must use. In practice, hunt only with a licensed guide on land where they have the right to search. Buying at the fair is the legal, simple way to take the uncinato home to eat in Italy.
